In 2006, the government commissioned Lord Leitch to review and make recommendations about the UK’s long term skill needs. The report highlighted the critical need for the UK to raise skills to remain globally competitive in productivity.
“There is a direct correlation between skills, productivity and employment. Unless the UK can build on reforms to schools, colleges and universities and make its skill base one of its strengths, UK businesses will find it increasingly difficult to compete” The Leitch Review of Skills.
In response to Leitch, the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) established World Class Skills – developing responsive provision programme (WCS). It is managed and delivered by KPMG who lead a consortium of national partners. Together they can bring significant expertise to you and your organisation. They can also draw in the sector’s most innovative and effective practice to share with you.
The WCS programme offers a range of support products and services including:
• interactive workshops
• seminars
• consultancies
• thematic development projects
• materials and resources.
All these events and activities are fully subsidised by LSIS and are designed to support the changes in demand led funding, the rolling out of the Training Quality Standard accreditation, the growth of Train to Gain, the National Skills Academies and the development of specialist networks. We aim to involve Chief Executive Officers, Principals and Directors of further education institutions and independent training providers in the first wave of events. Also, staff involved in planning, developing and delivering employer responsive provision may be keen to get involved at the early stages.
“If you don't take part, you will never know. Keep informed and keep ahead with employer engagement. If it was not for the employer being happy with the provider there would be no provider!!!”
Helen Naylor, Training 2000
